(CONTENT WARNING: DISCUSSION ABOUT ANTI-SEMITISM, MENTAL ILLNESS, AND NAZIS)

F***ing hell. I really did not want my first Entry in two months to be on such an agonizing subject. On the one hand, this man is clearly dealing with severe mental illness, and certainly not dealing with it well. On the other, this man has casually praised one of the worst men in all of history and being extremely anti-Semitic himself on top of that. That man is Ye, AKA Kanye West. His fall from grace has been swift over the past month or two, but boy oh boy, the agony this has caused so many people cannot be denied.

For one thing, the blatant and truly extreme levels of anti-Semitism he has recently exhibited cannot simply be ignored. In fact, the very reason that I got around to writing this is because of his recent appearance on InfoWars. The context here is absolutely needed, as Alex Jones, the infamous host of the far-right program known more for peddling conspiracy theories than anything else, said that Kanye did not deserve to be “demonized,” and said that Ye “wasn’t Hitler.” Ye then responded with another anti-Semitic statement, one that made Jones look remotely reasonable by comparison for once and also made him eat his words immediately.

The first sentence of Ye’s statement went like this: “Well, I see good things about Hitler also. I love everyone.” It’s pretty goddamn clear that he’s talking out of his ass, because praising the Nazi leader and claiming to love everyone are two completely incompatible beliefs. To make the biggest understatement I have made on this blog, Hitler did not “love everyone”

Ye then continues to dig down into a hole of hate that’s already near 1000 feet deep, and says this: “And Jewish people are not going to tell me you can love us, and you can love what we’re doing to you with the contracts, and and you can love what we’re pushing with the pornography.” Even this is not the bottom of the barrel for Ye, and we’re already more deranged than most ordinary InfioWars rants. By the way, this is hosted by the same Alex Jones who has to pay a billion dollars to the families of victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting, and he’s shocked by this. Yet this is only getting worse from here.

Ye then makes a series of other statements about trying to find redeeming qualities about Hitler, with one claim trying to find value in him being born Christian. Perhaps it’s worth mentioning that being a Chrtistian does not automatically make anyone a decent person, and the same is true for anyone. There is no substitute for a person’s character, something both Ye and Jones severely lack. Only now do we hit the true nadir, as the show heads to a commercial break, probably with at least one MyPillow ad. Jones tried to call Ye out for having a “Hitler fetish,” and Ye’s response is all of three words: “I like Hitler.” These three words cross a more appalling line than I ever thought possible, and are truly irredeemable in every single way. When anyone makes Alex Jones from InfoWars appear to be anything other than a blindly hateful grifter operating entirely through malice, there is no reason to respect that person.

I’m not alone in saying this, as the backlash to this recent period of pure hate from Ye has likely cost him just about everything. His music career will never recover, at least certainly not to what it once was. He was widely regarded as a master of 21st century hip-hop and rap, both as an artist and producer. Now that entire legacy has become a dark, twisted fantasy. Adidas stopped making Yeezys nearly a month ago now, and any future business ventures and partnerships he may attempt will likely not even be approved. He was a billionaire two months ago, andnow he’s almost lost it all.

Any hope I had that Ye would get the help he desperately and critically needs to deal with his demons is also almost gone. If this doesn’t prompt him to finally take a look at himself and leave the limelight to deal with his mental health, I hate to see how this ends. Simply put, the career and stardom of the man once known as Kanye West now seems like a distant memory. It’s been merely two months, and he’s gone from a heralded figure in society to being widely perceived as an outright danger to it.

I hope never to cover a situation like this on this blog ever again. I hope that Ye can finally see how desperately he needs literally any mental help. I also hope that this fiasco exposes the sheer grift that is a good chunk of the American far right. After all, they enabled Ye to travel a path of almost certain self-destruction, and even the horrors of the Trump presidency can not come close to that level of danger to the American public. After all, this has single handedly shattered a man’s life as he once knew it. This is only a small portion of the true danger of the American far right, not even the true nature of the beast. I hope that this is a lesson in just how lethal such extremism can be to a fragile mind, and also to the extreme potential for disaster that could come for America. Let this be a lesson that Trump was only the beginning, and that we have a lot of work to do to make hate irrelevant again.
